Ok, so I have silkies that had chickens. I was wondering if I could tell if they were male or females by genetics because the father is a non vaulted silkie and the mother is vaulted. So does that mean if a chick comes out vaulted, it is a female and if a chick comes out a non vaulted it is a male? Or am I wrong.

You can't tell gender from vaulted skulls. Vaulted skulls just mean the crest of the bird will be bigger. If you get no vault then there will be a small crest or no crest.
So I wouldn't be able to tell the gender of the offsprings because the parents have opposites skull?

Thanks. Would there be any other way to tell the gender by genetics, or no.
There are some breeds that have been bred to tell genders as chicks like barred rocks. The only way to tell genders as chick is to have an auto sexing breed. And silkies arn't one of those breeds. Silkies are hard to tell genders bc they tend to mature slower.

Thanks. I usually get the gender of my silkies around 4ish months. But a family member wants one at a month old and I'm just trying to give my best guess as he wants a roo and a hen.
