Vegetarian chickens?

Pics
I don't think there is a statement made on the packaging that says the chickens are vegetarian and didn't eat animal protein. It says "vegetarian fed" which means the food they are offered is plant based and contains no animal products or by-products. Word-play; a marketing ploy to make you believe it is healthier. Kinda like "no-antibiotics", or "better Omega-3" than the competitors eggs. Let's feed them marigold petals to make the yolks darker.

We still buy chicken at the store. DH has commented in the past about an occasional package of the store chicken being tough - not sure how he will handle home raised meat birds. At least he loves the eggs from out flock and won't eat a store bought egg if he can help it, lol! Only now, we never go out for breakfast anymore. :(

There are Gamecock mixes at some feed stores if you can find them. They are a complete diet for adults and have a mix of grains and pellets that contain Animal protien. That's all I feed and there in beautiful condition. Mostly 14 to 18 percent. Check it out it cost more but is better for them in the long run

Amen, 76 here and fully aware of how much more there is to learn.

Great discussion here , folks. Well done, Benny.

Chicken are omnivorous. So they need both sources of food. Exactly like Humans.

Not sure of what exactly you're trying to say here, but for clarity: humans can easily be healthy and vegetarian/vegan.
Actually Akrnaf2 started the human diet comment. And humans can be vegans if they chose. It's different when chickens don't have a choice because of what we do or don't give them.
Saying feeding chicken to chickens is gross is my opinion. I'm not saying that I can't discuss this with you.
So no I'm not contradicting myself. I'm giving my opinion.
If you want to continue a conversation about cannibalism in chickens or humans, I'm happy to continue that on another thread, as long as you are not rude or dismissive.

If you keep hens in closed areas, feed them only pellets and be sure no insects or mice can get in, then those hens will be vegetarian
