So just wanted to tell this story here because it just happened 20 minutes ago and I still can't believe it!

Was outside talking to a family member in the driveway while the Wild Muscovy ducks were eating some feed in the yard. I looked up to see that one of the week old ducklings from the group was waddling across the road by himself to get to his mom.

Normally I wouldn't be worried, because everyone in the area knows about them and goes very slow on the roads. Not today, apparently! In about a split second, a car came around the corner going about 50. The poor little duckling tried to back pedal and I started to run over. Car hit him on the side, just grazing him and he went flying.

I was so distraught and ran over. The car kept going without stopping. Little duckling ran under one of our cars and I managed to get him. Luckily he had a very tiny road rash on his butt and was only bleeding a little bit. No other injuries and very lively. We cleaned him up and gave him back to mom (who waited very patiently!).

They all waddled off and I stood there for a while in disbelief. There's no way the person in the car didn't see him, as there were also several adult ducks by the road. So reckless!

All in all I'm glad the little guy wasn't smashed but geesh. Never a dull moment!

Too many people these day's are self-centered and only care about themselves. I hope the little duckling didn't get any internal injury that wasn't noticeable.
Agreed! I hope so too. I thought about taking him in, but I didn't want to steal him from his mother. They do such a great job of raising their babies out here.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on him though! They're always here every morning and around dusk.

Glad the little guy is okay! Could you get a picture of the duck family to show us? 😁
Sure! There's over 40 at this point so I might not be able to get them all in 1 pic 😂.

They like to waddle around the neighborhood and everyone gives them food. I think I'm the only one who goes out and buys them duck pellets though 😅.
