Hi - I'm new and we move Monday to our new home on 10 acres!

One of our first priorities is to build a coop and run for chickens - hopefully we'll end up with about 15 or so.

I've checked out coop designs here and elsewhere, done my research online, books, and at the local feedstore, but OF COURSE! still have many questions.

Right now, in thinking about coop designs, from what I gather, we need ventilation, but don't want the coop drafty. That the chickens like to see out through windows, but also need a dark place for nesting boxes.

So any suggestions for light in the coop, but dark boxes?
And ventilation, but not drafty?

Thanks for helping the beginners!!!

(am I making this coop planning more complicated than it needs to be?)

Ventilation
(they have many types to go on shed roof!)
or you can just have 2 holes (covered with hardware cloth) 1 on each walling facing each other

Best Box (you want it to want them to lay in there so, they do like dark secluded hideaway's) but, they are flexible!
(paint black or dark color inside) about a foot off ground! not directly in front of a window

All these things depend on what type of coop you are building!

Chickens need clean, predator proof & if you want egg 14 hours light to produce eggs!

Chickens will be happy in pretty much anything!
So just make sure it is easy to Clean, Feed Storage, Predator proff easy access to eggs & have adequate
