Venturing down the Incubator road!

After trying to hatch some eggs with my broody BO without success, my DH made me an incubator today (following MissPrissy's home made incubator designs). We put 34 eggs in my new 'bator a little while ago.

The count down begins!!!

I am so eggcited!

i know how you feel, it is going to be along 21 days. but after you do two or three hatchings you will still feel like 21 days is a year. lol
for i know because i hatch all the time i keep at least two bators going all the time.

Congratulations! Make sure to take plenty of pictures.

Keeping obsessive records (temp, humidity, etc. etc.) helps pass the time . . .

william, I can't believe my DH built the incubator after commenting several times while Ginger was setting on eggs, "Do we really need MORE chickens?"

I told him we'd be lucky to get 10 chicks out of the 34 eggs!

Ginger is still broody, so I am going to let her set on some eggs so when the chicks hatch I'll move them out to her.

The 21 days will be forever, but it helps that I have two bunnies due with litters: a Holland Lop due in 2-4 days and a Lionhead due in 3-5 days! The baby bunnies will keep me distracted!

Jenski, I have photos of DH putting the bator together. I will make a page SOON.

Here are my egg counts as of day 1:

Bantam eggs: (10)
(1) Self-Blue Cochin - roo is Red or Buff Cochin
(1) Buff Cochin - hopefully she got w/the Buff roo
(2) Red Cochin - hopefully she got w/the Red roo
(2?) Blue Wyandotte - roo is Red or Buff Cochin, that should be an interesting combination, if they make it!
(3) Blue/Red OEG - small chance roo is Sebright and not my Blue/Red OEG
(1) Golden Sebright - I am SO eggcited! I hope it is fertile!

Standard eggs: (24) My rooster, Prince Roo, is a White Leghorn
(2) Australorp
(1?) Buff Orpington
(6) California White
(5) Barred Rock
(6) White Rock
(4) Production Red

I am hoping for higher than 50% hatch rate. Of course I have no idea what I am going to do with all these chicks!
