We have a rouen drake and a female african goose that free range in our backyard in the day and are put up at night. Whenever one of us goes into the backyard the drake attacks our ankles and it hurts bad but we just push him back and he goes at it again. I don't know what to do about it. Culling and getting rid of is not an option.they were both hatched in may of 2014.

Has this been going on for a while now or just during spring? He may be protective of the goose because she is laying eggs or about to. Usually her gander would do this, but since you don't have one, the drake may be taking over. Is there a reason you only have one duck? They do best with at least one of their own kind.

He has just started doing this, he used to be so good. The reason we only have one is because he was the last one at the feed store and at the time we didn't know if they needed another of the same species and the feed store owner said to get a goose to go with him so we did.we are getting another goose and 11 ducks this month so that should make him better, I hope?

Breeding season always bring out the worse in drakes and ganders. Especially if they have been hand raised. hopefully getting more flock members will help but your going to have to wait till your babies are adult size before putting them with your 2 adults now. If he aggressive towards you he could easily be aggressive even to death to your new little ones.
Keeping them all in fencing [once the babies are big enough and feathered in to be outside] side by side is the best way to integrate them all. With daily trips out for everyone to see each other with supervision .
