VERY Bloody egg, help please

Okay 3 days ago I got a EE egg with a little blood, not biggie, well yesterday a little more, still no biggie, but today the egg was covered, I mean covered with blood. The vent is raw, and I have seprated her. I don't know if it's normal or what, but I have never seen this much blood come out of one of my chickens. Is this normal?

I am so sorry I dont know. It is good that you separated her. Maybe a little TLC and quiet time will help.

Just commented to this in another thread... I'll post it here though too.

She's laying eggs that are too large for her age or size. When the egg reaches the end of the oviduct and enters the cloaca, the tissue and blood vessels rip if the egg is too large. It's likely that the other chickens tried to cannibalize her when they saw the blood, hence the raw vent. This happened to one of my hens a few years back. She recovered, but it was absolutely necessary to isolate her to prevent the other birds from ripping her innards out. Watch her carefully, it wouldn't surprise me if she becomes egg bound.

Well this is one of the kids little chickens. We have already seprated her,k she's out in the shop in a dog cage, poor girl didn't have any heat though. I am going ahead and buying another heat light set up today, because I am going to keep her there. The egg was pretty big but not huge. She is a couple weeks from being 1 so still pretty young and this is the first time we have been getting regular eggs (daily I mean) from her. BTW her name is Maddy, my 3 yr old sons EE, I really cannot let anything happen to her.

I think I read on here that feeding Black Oil Sunflower Seeds will help lubricate or at least move things along more smoothly.

Switch her OFF of laying formula feed. Right now, you DO NOT want her laying if at all possible. Put her on flock raiser if you have any or can get any. If you leave her in a darkened area, she should stop laying. You need to give her time to heal. I agree w/Moody - I think the other chickens saw blood on her vent and began picking on it. GOOD LUCK!
