My one year old speckled chicken is very ill.
A while back she had a bit of a moult went off lay and wasn't herself but did pick up (although still off lay). She and her sisters were wormed when the clocks went forward and there is no sign of any mites or lice on her.
Past few days she has been very lethargic and today won't even move about much. She won't even look at food and her comb is dark red.
She has been doing bright yellow runny poos. I have checked her internally to see if she's egg bound but that all seems ok, however when feeling down inside she appears to have a large mass in her abdomen, is this normal?
I'm concerned she won't last the day.
Kind regards
Jon

I have no idea what is going on, I am still new, but replying to your comment so it gets bumped up. Good luck with your girl!

So sorry to hear that Jon. Does the bright yellow poo look like it could be an egg yolk? Like maybe she's had an egg crush inside of her, causing infection? If she has a mass, perhaps she's growing a tumor inside.....

The only advice I could give is setting her in a nice crate with water and food close by, maybe giving her some antibiotics, plus vitamins and electrolites with an eye dropper into her beak. Just keeping her comfortable, really.

Take care and let us know how she does,
Sharon

(I hope someone else comes along with better advice for you....)

If she had an egg break internally - thus the yellow pooh, she probably has an infection - egg yolk peritonitis. You can do a vinegar flush (do a search for that on this forum and see where dawg53 describes how to do it), and start a 4 day round of penicillin injections - probably 1/2 cc ( .1cc per pound of weight) IM into the breast alternating sides each day.
