I have a 2 year old English Orpington that has suddenly taken ill. She has lost weight (from 9lb to 7lb) and has now had a few seizures since Sunday morning. Have taken her to the vet and among other things, was advised to continue with the NutriDrench (I had taken it upon myself to start with that since no vet is open or willing on Sundays), but to give it directly not in the water. I know the directions of 1ml per 3lbs of body weight, but can't find the number of dosages per day. Anyone here know the answer to this Please?
Very Distraught Chicken Mom :(

If you are direct dosing, it would be once daily.

Does your vet seem to know what's causing her seizures?

For neurological symptoms I would offer more vitamin support. PND is good stuff for quick uptake, but I'd give her 400IU Vitamin E along with 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily. A treat of egg can help with the uptake of E. These will bring up the amount of B Vitamins she gets plus the E which is quite low in PND.

See that her crop is emptying.

Is she molting or still laying eggs?

Thank You! You pretty much just said exactly what the vet did, thank you! She is in fact molting. No eggs. Crop is pretty empty, she was only eating what I was hand feeding, but just started to eat some mush a little while ago. No idea at all as to what is causing this. I broke my back a few weeks ago and have had others come to care for them for me. Not that it makes a difference, but . She is now indoors in a quiet crate next to my side. Will be treating with antibiotics for 10 days (& I say 10 days because I have to stay confident that she will beat this!). You would give the vitamin E and B complex as an addition to the NutriDrench?

Oh my!
I hope you are able to recover quickly from your break, that sounds scary:hugs

You can give the PND with the E and B-Complex if you wish, it won't hurt anything. If you find it to be a hassle, then I'd focus on getting the E and B-Complex into her.

Did your vet run a fecal float to see if she has worms and/or a Coccidia overload? Sometimes when a hen starts having issues, other conditions/parasites can overtake them in their weakened state.

I can see where this is heading, she's by your side, so she's going to be spoiled rotten:)
