Very New to Chickens

Hello, my name is Breanna and I am so excited to have people to learn from when it comes to raising chickens! I just recently moved from Southern California to Alaska with my husband and our two daughters. Our new home has a chicken coop and while I've never even considered owning chikens, my husband convinced me to get chicks.

We got eight Islandic chicks one week ago so they are a week old now and doing great! I never imagined how much we would all fall in love with our little chickies but they are our little babies now! We also have two dogs who are taking to the chicks well; we are sure to have constant supervision when they are around the chicks though.

I found Backyard Chickens while researching how to set up my coop for when the chicks are old enough to be moved. There seems to be so many options that I'm getting a little overwhelmed on how to choose the best option (using sand, deep litter method, or something else). I'm hoping this site can help me choose the best option for us!

Welcome to BYC and owning chickens! It was overwhelming when i first got on BYC too . Hope you find this site to be as helpful as I found it and hope you find raising chickens to be a fun and rewarding experience! I hear that Islandic chickens are great although I have never owned any myself.
