My 8 lb. 3 year old barred rock hen was attacked by a fox 15 days ago. She had numeous wounds and lost a ton of feathers. I'm washing the wounds once a day and applying bacitracin - all attempts to cover the wounds failed because she wound rip them right off! I noticed a very red area under her tail on Sunday and kept an eye on it until Tuesday. Because it was no better and I thought maybe it indicated an infection, I got some Baytril from the vet. She has been on Baytril since Weds.
The rash looks worse today - the chicken is acting fine. The wounds all look like they are healing. I don't think other chickens are bothering her - she did lose feathers from this area and she may be pecking at the area herself but I have not seen her do this.
Any suggestions?

It would be pretty normal for the others to be pecking at the area. I would separate her for a few days. You might try an antifungal or antiyeast oiintment or cream, or just some plain live culture yogurt, or buttermilk or the like. You could also use some gentian violet (feed stores usually sell BluKote or a generic.) Since she's been on an antibiotic, of course she could use some probiotics as well. I'm assuming you've checked for lice / mites. That's all the ideas I have.... Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas. I do have some BlueKote and I also have some Desitin. I might try Desitin for night-time and then spray her with the BlueKote.
