Somethink broke into our fully netted chicken yard this afternoon when we were not home and three of our four 5-week old chicks are missing. What we can do with the one we still have? Is there any place that we can buy similar age chicks? Everybody's heart is broken and doesn't want to lose our last chick. We are in Oregon. Thanks for any input.

local craigslist usually has people wanting to get rid of chickens for one reason or another.

Are they just missing or did you find the carcasses Sometimes chickens will get out of the predators way and hide check around you might be surprised to find one or two alive.

We searched for about two hours. There was no sound at all. They stayed together all the time and they chick whenever they were not. Our next door has two cats and one dog which they don't keep them fenced so they sneak into our yard from time to time. The cat got one chick already 2.5 weeks ago. We couldn't find any other chicks, dead or alive. Thanks for your suggestion and we will keep looking.

I am sorry you lost your babies. Maybe they will be back.

What part of Oregon are you in, and what kind of chicks are you looking for? I see that you found some on Craigslist, but I am in Redding (not far from Oregon) and have some 5 and 6 week old mixed banties that I would be willing to give to you if you aren't too far away. Just a thought. My mom and sister live in Lebanon and I can always use an excuse to go and visit them. I don't know yet if they are roo or pullets, but I can send you some pictures if you are even interested. My 2 roos are Gold laced Wyandotte and New Hampshire. My hens are New Hampshire, EE, Blue Laced Red Cornish, and Silver Laced Wyandotte. They are all banties.

Thank you very much for your input. The ones we lost are Silver Laced Wyandotte (our Henhen, the smartest one), Black Austrolorp (blackie Jr. after we lost our blackie), and Roso (She is red. Roso means red in Italian, I don't remember her species). Unfortunately we are in Portland area, couple of hours driving from Redding. Anyway, thank you very much.
