Very Sick Hen

Hi I have a very sick hen, My hubby noticed won of my hens laying on the ground so I went and got her, She has a very bloated stomach and a very full crop, she is having trouble sitting and standing, She had alot of feces running down the back of her, I cleaned her up and put her into a cosy box with straw and brought her into the house, I placed the box on a heat pad.


She is only 3 years old i dont know when she laid last i have 5 hens. They are eyes a brown i think see pic.

I have been reading all the other posts regarding sick chickens and they all seem so different.;;'

Please can anyone help I am in Western Australia. I dont think she will make it through the night.

Sorry, I am not sure, but until someone els with more advice comes along, you should make sure that she is drinking. It's good you are keeping her warm.
Hope she gets better.

Sounds similar to what I just went through. I had a hen, Martha, who basically couldn't walk because her belly was so swollen. I'd place her in the grass during the day with food and water, which she ate and drank. After several post on different sites, I was advised that it could be a tumor or internal laying. After taking care of her for about 3 weeks, I picked her up on afternoon to put her back in the house and right under her vent there were maggots everywhere. We put her down.

I think it was internal laying and infection had set up. No signs of any external injuries. She had not layed in several months. She was at least 3 and probably older. Keep her butt clean from poop to keep flies away and food/water closed. Not a very hopeful answer and her sister died the same way several months ago. Both were Barred Rocks. Good luck.

The end result for egg impactation isnt good as mentioned by kudzu vine. She could possibly be eggbound. At the very least try soaking her in a container of warm water up to her sides and gently massage her underside front to rear while in the warm water. Do this for about 20 minutes. The warm water will relax and expand her innards, massaging will help move the egg along. Hopefully she might lay an egg.
