Anybody had any experience using zolcal-D.

I have a hen that is struggling to lay hard shell eggs and has been for awhile. She has good quality layers, free range of the garden when I’m home, and crushed egg shells. My other hens are fine. I have purchased this from petsathome.

Wondered if I was able to just supplement the water for them all with no repercussions?, rather than having to just try target her which would be neigh on impossible.

The instructions are rather vague on the packet.

Thanks.

I searched it and seems there are many folks that use it. The bottle you posted says on it to give 10 ml per 200 ml of water. In ounces, that's .34 oz to 7 oz water.

We just put oyster shell out, but if it's a serious problem like hen is egg-bound, then the recommendation is to give her a whole human calcium pill. You can open her beak by pulling down gently on her wattles. Put it in and she should swallow it fine.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the reply. I did end up administrating it in the water for them all. But what it being 50ml in 2000ml of water the bottle wasn’t going to last very long. I have since just mixed a little bit with some wet layers and fed said bird that is effected. She seems much happier, hasn’t laid an egg yet, but is active and no longer displaying any real sickness signs. Hopefully it’s worked.

I’ve also started to give them oyster shell ad-lib again. I used to do that, they never seemed interested in it and it didn’t seem to go down much other than when they tried knocking it all over. Began using crushed eggs shells that I’d first heated up in the oven which they seem to find much more palatable.

I will continue with the oyster shells as having read up, I think the absorption rates between eggshells/oyster differ.

Hopefully it was a calcium deficiency and nothing more sinister.

Again, thanks your the help
