I posted before about the 6 chicks that I brought home that had been in the cold on Saturday that had a slight gurgle and didn't get any answers, but I remembered that I had some Vet Rx that I had bought just to have in the cabinet, and it say that it is for colds and respiratory issues. However, it doesn't say if it is okay for babies. These little guys are a week at the most. Has anyone successfully used this for their chicks? I was just going to use the in-the-waterer method.

Thank you all!

hey,
so im not completly sure what vet rx is but the best way to find out is to ring a vet surgery and ask them or perhaps even better most products like that have a consumer hotline or at least an enquiry line you can call.
in relation to a lot of anti b's though 'they' do ask that the animal be more than three weeks old however if you feel that these chicks are deteriorating or will deteriorate without treatment then mix up the most dilute dose mentioned on the bottle and treat anyway, i have done this with tetracycline and others with success and without complication though that may not be the same in all cases.
good luck:)

I like vet RX and I use it a lot, but I've never used it on ones that little! Is the gurgle in their nare(nostril) area or in the chest? (With them being so tiny, I don't know how you could tell honestly, but I thought I'd ask) If you feel like they are struggling, it would be the first product I tried. I know Vet RX separates at cool temps, so make sure you get it good and mixed up.

Thank you both. I guess I'm just overprotective mommy. They aren't struggling and still eat and drink and seem chipper. It sounds like it may be in the nasal area? Not sure though. I just want to get whatever it is kicked as soon as I can. Thanks for putting me at ease a bit to wait until I can get surefire instruction on it.
