Vinyl vs. Linoleum, just FYI

I didn't know until a couple of years ago that there was a difference. There is certainly a PRICE difference between the two, and most of the posts that talk about using linoleum remnants are actually referring to vinyl remnants.

Linoleum is an old, but really cool and GREEN product. (read this)

When vinyl flooring became available in new and brighter colors, Americans stopped using Linoleum. If you have an old house, like mine, you might want to put it "back" in your kitchen, where it probably used to be.

I'd been biting my tongue over commenting on people calling it Linoleum for quite some time. Granted, you CAN get Linoleum from big box stores. It's highly likely [85% of] that it's really vinyl flooring you're getting.

Anything with a foamy feeling, a texture, or pattern to it is vinyl. Linoleum does NOT come in textures or patterns. Often it's either a solid color or resembles marble.

I'll be finishing my kitchen with Linoleum, for sure, since it's just an old farmhouse.. Want that authentic, aged feeling.

LOL.. That will be a while.. Heck.. The fireplace has been without a mantel for a year and a half..

I'm SO glad that I dug up that flooring example.. Who ever runs vtecobuilder.com has done some phenomenal work for sure. Getting lots of storage ideas and whatnot from them.

"Linoleum" has become one of those generic names for sheet flooring, like Jello. Marmoleum is one brand name, see http://www.forboflooringna.com

I wonder how durable linoleum would be under chicken coop conditions--moisture, heat, cold. After all, vinyl is forever.....
