They can get their full beaks in it and feet. I have seen them sit in it but it's not big enough for much.

Yikes I forgot about that, that presents a problem better leave it like it is and maybe just put the new waterer in there when you can watch. till chicks are about 2-3 weeks old by then they will know better.What happens when a baby chick falls in? We have two chicks in the same brooder. (I think that's what it's called.)
I'd still give ducklings something to use to wash their faces with and just let them use it under supervision, it's important for their health they be able to wash out their eyes and nares especially when eating. Just do it when you can watch those chicks.Yeah I don't want to drown the hubby's chicks. He would not be happy with me!
