One of my guineas is lacking a vitamin that makes strong feathers. His feathers break off really easily. Is there a supplement he can take? He's a very fussy eater but I could mix supplements in with his drink.

I'm new to raising guineas that we have had for 11 days now. I seen mealworms in my farm store for chickens and picked them up. At first they didn't know what to do with them whole so we crushed them up.....now 2 days later they are enjoying them. I thank you for giving advice on purpose of them having protein for feather growth. Is there a limit on how much you feed to them? I have 15 in a brooder box right now. Just last night the little stinkers were flying to the top of the mason jar feeder looking around. My pied guineas have a beautiful color coming into the wings...the lavenders are not as pretty yet.
Thanks for your knowledge my 2 kids are enjoying learning as well.

I have never heard of meal worms where I live. I'll try ask the local produce shop.
They wont have them at a produce shop. They are freeze dried worms. They would more likely have them at a pet store, especially one that has food for reptiles. Her in the United States they have learned that they can make money by selling them as chicken treats to people who like to pamper their chicken. Honestly, cat food or scrambled eggs are probably less expensive. Another option is to get a small bag of non-medicated chick starter which is higher protein and mix it in with their regular nutritionally balanced chicken feed.

You also may want to do extra checks for mites or lice which could cause feather breakage due to picking and scratching.

Aha... now I understand... a produce shop in the USA sell fruit and vegetables. You go to all that trouble for them, and they turn up their beaks when they get meal worms. Hopefully if they get them a few more times, they will decide they are good. maybe your Silkies will like them and show the guineas they are delicious.
