Is anyone aware of a VT State law that requires chickens to be kept 150 feet away from dwellings of an adjoining property? My town Health Officer sent me a letter asking me to adhere to this guidance and I cant find anything on the web about it. Seems like most people I know with chickens would be in violation of this in my town. Funny thing is, he quoted a VT law, not a town ordinance. Is this possibly some old law or something cause our town has nothing against it.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya
Interesting. I just did a quick search of that title and it appears that chapter 9-14 are no longer available. Cited paragraph is the first in chapter 9. Know any VT lawyers/librarians? Different states have different styles of maintaining their statutes. Point is that they may have deleted the paragraph your health officer is citing.

Another thing to consider is that normally that kind of regulation is not a state thing unless directed at commercial enterprises, not back yard hobby farms. Normally local jurisdictions create laws like that, that only affect those living in that jurisdiction. Contact your state representative or senator and ask him or her. (Hope you're a registered voter... they normally check before putting forth any effort on anyone's behalf )
