So I'm not totally sure how old my 1st flock is but I guess that they are about 13 weeks today. I have two Leghorns, two aracauna banies, and a Rhode Island Red. All hens but 1 Araucana. I am about to expire from all the anticipation waiting for their first lay! How long should I be waiting for each breed and does anyone know what the eggs will look like? I am so ready for my babies to start laying!! I don't know how much longer I can take of this waiting!!!

Thank goodness for that! I swear, I have been chomping at the bit for the last few weeks! But thank you so much for the insight, it was greatly appreciated on this end!

Oh and for my newest flock, who can't be over 8 weeks old, I was wondering if you knew anything about those breeds? I have a little Golden Laced Wyandotte who had wry neck at birth and is now aptly named Rhino :) I have a Black Australorpe who is humongous already! And I have another which I am not sure the breed. We call her Eagle because that is exactly how she looks. She is white and fluffy around her neck and up and the rest of her body is black with white etchings. I mean she looks exactly like an Eagle but I have no idea the breed.

Don't panic if your EEs take as long as 30 weeks or more to lay. They're basically mutts, so there's great variation in the time they begin to lay. Your other breeds will also start to lay around 25 weeks or so.

As for your eagle bird--maybe an EE, too? If you really want to know, post photos on the "What breed or gender is this?" board and folks will help you out. That's the best place to ask. There are instructions at the top of the board telling you which photos people need to figure it out.

That sounds like a great idea. Thank you so much for the insight. I am totally new to this site and heaven't had a chance to really explore :)
