Well, my oldest girls are about 15 weeks old now. Two of the eight (my black sex-link, and one of the rhode island reds) have really developed very red combs, faces and wattles. I know that this is a sign that they are maturing to egg laying stage, my question is how soon does it happen. Will it still be a few more weeks?, or does it happen fairly quickly?

That is the thing about some chickens. My leghorns are 4 months old, have very red combs and have yet to lay an egg. My RIR on the other hand started laying last week and haven't really pinked up any. When you are expecting them to lay, they will hold out until you give up on them, then lay just to prove you wrong.

yeah, they're all so different, that it's pretty much a waiting game... the good news though, is that yours are very close! could be any day now, could be another month... hang in there!

my sex links started in their 20th week. others of mine started any where from 19 to 37 weeks i had a darn ee that was 9 months old when she started but most in 19 to 23 week point.
