I believe the chicken came first. To have an egg a special protein needs to develop in a chickens ovaries (did you know that humans can not recreate an egg shell?!?).

Chickens evolved from other creatures which once roamed the planet (have you ever noticed the similarities between a chicken and a velociraptor, which by the way had feathers).

Well, where did Dinosaurs come from?
Dinosaurs are believed to have evolved from amphibians, which evolved from fish, which evolved from other organisms that did not use what we know as an egg to hatch..
