Walnut cat litter for poop board?

I have a new kitten and tried the Naturally Fresh crushed walnut hull litter, but I’m not impressed and can’t return it. Then I thought maybe I could use it on the poop board in my coop, so to not waste it. I used to use Sweet PDZ, but haven’t been able to get it here in Canada, and the texture is similar. Does anyone know if it would be safe to use? I suspect it would be, since it’s not black walnut, and it’s lower dust than the Sweet PDZ. Any thoughts on this?

I can’t speak to safety.

Crushed walnut will probably be useful in terms of its texture, but as it doesn’t contain zeolite (the Z in Sweet PDZ), it won’t bond with the ammonia etc to nullify odors.

But as long as it’s safe, it seems like a reasonable way to use up a purchase gone wrong.

If you decide not to use it on the poop boards, it could be useful in breaking up and aerating heavy clay soil, along with other organic matter. Or just add it to your compost pile, if you have one.

A thought: maybe you can find a source by just searching on “zeolite.”

Thanks for your comment! It’s supposed to help with ammonia odours for cat pee, so I’m thinking it will be similar for chickens? We’ll see.
I searched zeolite today and found a source that sells it for landscaping! Thanks for that tip.
