(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to owning chickens on my own. I have been “around” chickens for decades, as in my grandparents had them and I would gather their eggs.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6 - state minimum and my city’s maximum. I’m kinda stuck on that #
(3) What breeds do you have?
Australorps, buff orpingtons, sapphire gem/splash, welsummer
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Not sure yet, they’re still in their pool in my kitchen causing terrible allergies and messes by throwing around their pine bedding. But, they’re awfully cute and are finding their voices. I have one that sings very quietly and cannot figure out who it is. It’s SUPER cute! My dog loves to have them in their outside pool as they’re being “weaned” from their indoor setting.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Ooh, so many. Knitting, crocheting, keeping freshwater fish & shrimp including dwarf neo’s, gardening, hanging out with my cats, crosswords, etc.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I ran across this website years ago before I found out my city didn’t allow chickens (at that time). Been checking in periodically ever since.
