Wanna be farmer

Hi everyone. I don't currently own any chickens but am interested in learning all I can and hopefully have fresh eggs soon. Our family consists of my husband and I and our daughters 19 and 9. We have the best German Shepherd in the world and a lovable older dog. The other members of our "farm" are a 1 year old cat and a turtle that will outlive us all. We live in the city, so that's step 1, can we own chickens?

Lots of city-dwelling people do own chickens. You'll have to check local ordinances. If you can own chickens, I HIGHLY recommend it! I never dreamed, last August, when my adult son insisted on giving me 5 chicks, that I would have so much fun with them. Now I have a fantastic coop and run that houses 14 birds in all. I have named each one, and they are such a cute little flock. They have their quirks and routines, and are a thoroughly enjoyable endeavor.

Welcome @dfalco is right first determine if your town allows for chickens or cockerel query that at your chamber or town hall many are posted here on this site simple search of your town may help there .. but a warm please ask any questions you want.
