This little guy was hatched a couple days ago by my Ameraucana, and then she tried to kill him (she decided to kill everyone but her solid black chicks) so I'm his momma now. Not her chick biologically, and mom is most likely my Rhode Island Red judging by the red coloration, unless one of my Australorps or Blue Rock threw an anomaly chick. Egg color is medium brown so rules out my Wyandottes, Olive Egger, and Welsummer. Dad is a Lavendar Orp.

Am I correct in my thinking there? Also, am I looking at a black chicken with red leakage or does the red head mean something else? My old black stars had red leakage as adults and they didn't have any red baby fluff.

Hoping others might have some insight!

If the dad was a lavender then the mother is black.

All his chicks have been solid black regardless of what color hen. Lavendar is a recessive dilution gene over black base color and none of my hens carry that gene. This is the only chick with red coloration on his head, though.
