How odd is this girl? My friend and I ordered 12 Americaunas from Ideal. Eleven looked like chipmunks, and then there was this one:

Okay.....I spelled it wrong, obviously. But more importantly, what the heck is an EE? I've asked several folks and just have not ever gotten a straight answer.

Why does she look so different? Her legs are green, like the others, but she's very differently feathered.

Again, I"m a total novice--- I've only got these four babies and four adult hens (2 buffs, 2 barred rocks.)

She's kind of odd, I think.

LOL, that's ok! It took me like 4 months to spell it right...hahaha

she is an EE which is an easter egger. They are an ameraucana mix ! They lay awesome eggs that range from pink, blue, mint green and light brown! You will love her eggs!!!

Oh! That's pretty cool! Dumb question-- do they just go with one color, or might she lay several different colors over the course of her "career?" That's like always having a different surprise waiting for you in the nesting box!

What might her mix be? As I said, I'm pretty new to the whole chicken keeping thing, and really felt "exotic" branching out past my buffs and rocks! :)

Thanks for the info!

they mix them with several different kinds of birds to be honest. LOL but always it has either ameraucana or aracauna which lay blue eggs. They lay different kinds ,like one day pink then blue etc. If you go to the sticky thread in breeds it's the differences between ameracauna's, ee's and aracauna's you can see pic's of the eggs. Most hatchery ameraucana's are EE's sold as ameracana's. You will know by the eggs and feet. It is really good reading with tons of pics

I have one just like this. She doesn't have as much of the tanish/gold color as yours but the little tufts they have on their faces is so adorable. Mine is named Lucy. I was supposed to get 3 but the hatchery messed up our order and I got black and white hamburgs instead. big mix up there. since I didn't get the original ones I went to our local feed store and got 4 more aracauna and these look more like owls, one is light tan, one is black and 2 are darker brown. they all have speckles on them like owls do. they are absolutely gorgeous. of course all chickens are to me.

Are you sure about the laying a different color each day? I was told that the color of chicken eggs might fade with time/age of hen, but that each one would lay the same color essentially. For example, one of my EEs lays army olive green eggs. She will always lay an olive colored egg. Another one lays a minty green egg. She will always lay a minty green egg and never a tan or a pinkish egg. I don't think they can change from day to day. I think egg color is a genetic trait, isn't it?

She's going to be a really pretty bird! Yay for the Easter Eggers!
