well just wanted to see what you all feed yours and what you feed them when they get bigger would like to hear some name brands if you could tell me plz
thanks agin

I use TSC chick starter/grower crumbles. I don't bother with the starter then grower, far too easy to loose track, run out or buy too much.
Adults get crumbles too, mine all hate pellets, they tell me to just feed it to the dog, cus they ain't having it!

I never use medicated feed. Adults get theirs from either TSC or Farm Home Center. Same with Scratch. Cheapest bag they got...

I start out with chick starter from our feed store, the crumbles, I found that they have an easier time eating it, then after a few weeks I go to the pellets.

My chickens have no problems eating the pellets infact when we had dogs I had the hardest time keeping them and the goats out of the dog food.

I am now feeding crushed corn, wheat, milo and oats. Not much corn now. before I was feeding mostly corn and my egg production was down so I'm back to the other.

Good Luck.

thanks guys so i was also wondering what kind of layer food i should start to feed when i take them off of the chick starter. and thanks for the info about the feed

I feed mine the crumbles until they are about eight weeks old then I move them to a mix of flock raiser (grower food) and game bird pellets. I don't feed layer food at all. Since I have birds of all different ages they just stay on the mix and I keep oyster shell out free choice. They are getting plenty of protien and the shells are really thick. Works good for me.

Chick starter is rarely available around here (only in the spring when stores are selling chicks, but I do my hatching mostly in the fall) so I make my own. I've got a small flour grinder, so I coarsely grind up basically my adult bird ration--whole wheat, corn, oats, barley, sunflower seeds, alfalfa pellets, and a mineral mix, and feed that to the chicks, along with treats like a little meat, or egg, or milk, or fruit and veggies, or yogurt.

I like Purina Sun Fresh starter/grower. well I don't eat it just my chicks, but actually the whole flock likes it and even my ducks eat it. all the adults also get FR by Purina. and I just put out oyster shell in a separate container.
