WANTED*****coon/hunting dog*****Wanted

My boyfriend had a mountian cur coon dog and someone stole him (steve) out of his yard. We recently found a beautiful husky on a back road, we asked around and no one claimed the dog. He had it for a few weeks and then we found the owner. So now hes heartbroken.

I want to suprise him with one of his favorite dogs! He loves coon dogs and hunting dogs, and bloodhounds.

Please if you know anyone or you are selling dogs similar to these please please please let me know!

Almost all breeds have rescue groups. Try petfinder.com or do a Google search for coonhound rescue groups. Many of the animal shelters also post breed specific dogs on petfinder. Good luck.

I don't know if he just likes the Catahoula Curs, which aren't as common....atleast not around here, but Treeing Walkers are at the pound here every week, Blue Ticks too. People who don't put tracking devices on their dogs constantly lose them, so they end up at the pound. Curs are more of a holding dog for large animals like pigs, or, even bear..not so much trackers, so they don't get lost as often. I would definetly call my pound first if your looking for a hound dog though. Unless your looking for a puppy.....hmmm. Then I'd just check the local classifieds.

catahula dogs make exellet "pig" dogs and cattle herding dogs. But most of them are"not" safe around children.

Thanks i looked up that breed and there are a few around NE ohio. I was wanting a younger dog not ness a puppy. Im going to look at a few pounds next week.

Is it necessary to buy one that is bred or previously used for hunting??

It depends on what he wants to do with it. If you just want a pet, you can get one really inexpensively. Most folks give the ones away that don't have a nose and alot of times those are the ones that end up in the pound too. Folks dump them out because they have no value to them.

In the past I've had both beagles and walkers as pets and they make great ones. Hmmmm..as pets I think I liked beagles better, not as loud as walkers. A good walker will rattle you windows when he sounds.

If you want an already trained hunter, thats gonna cost you. Of course, you could get a puppy and train it yourselves. My boys started training our old hunting dogs with a bicycle when they were smaller. They would tie a hide to the seat and take off...puppy and boys had a ball.

Post in your area on craigslist.com what you are looking for, you will probably want to post in the biggest nearby town, or city to get a quick answer. I'm sure someone out there will have it and don't be surprise if you get it on the cheap, or free.

If you were closer, I would say talk to my boyfriend. He has a 9 week old litter of pups up for adoption.I think they are bluetick Coonhounds. But your pretty far away.

Your best option is to look at rescues groups and centers. They are always full of dogs needing a 2nd chance.
