My chicks are LOVING it! We added on to an existing playhouse that my kids no longer play in. It turned out to be much more work that I thought- but it turned out great. We added bird netting to the very top to keep air predators out!

It is harder to redo or add onto something than to build from scratch. I like your design and I'm sure your flock does too.

If you are not coop confining them at nite and when you aren't around, make sure the run part is secured against raccoons, mice, snakes. Cannot tell for sure from pic, but the walls look like chicken wire reinforced with welded wire. If that's the case, I would suggest a change or addition of 1/2 inch hardware cloth for more protection.

Yes, all coop openings should have 1/2 hardware cloth attached with screws/washers every 8", any latches should be double action(loop with carabineer or spring clip.)

We usually are letting them out when we are there- not during the day.
