I've always wanted to visit Tennessee and have always thought it would be a great place to live. For those who live there what is it like? climate/landscape/soil/trees.
Living in Texas I'm NOT liking the summer heat. We have a lot of rock so it's hard to garden and the trees are not very large (in my area). There is no seasonal changes...I miss fall colors...things like that. Anyone have pictures of their property/landscape and give me ideas of areas to check out?

I love Tennessee. However, if you don't like the Texas heat and the rocky soil, it may not be much better here. Summers are hot AND humid. The ground is terribly rocky. You can't dig very deep before hitting solid rock - at least here in middle TN. But, it is a very pretty state, with lots of diverse terrain. I'll try and post of few pics of our place later (I don't have the pics on this computer).

Do you live in Wilson County? haha! The rocks here are ridiculous!! We have to do all raised garden beds (some of which are made using rocks dug up from our yard. Now I'm sure this is not the case for everyone in Tennessee

We just happen to live in a very rocky area.

The patches of no grass are actually huge slabs of rock. And this is just a tiny portion of our yard. You might be able to dig about an inch under the grass before hitting more rock...

But when you dig up some of the rocks, you get free beds!

I'm a TN transplant. Originally from FL. I've been here about 3 years now. I do like the change of seasons, however, summer is HOT and winter is COLD (at least from a Floridian point of view

). It's beautiful here though and there is a lot of history too. My husband loves it here and will never go back. And although I am not a fan of the cold, this state is quite beautiful...

I grew up in Rutherford county, and live in Cannon county now. My wife is from Georgia and I moved there when we got married. She swore she would never move to TN. Now that she's here, she would never move back to Georgia

We actually live right near the county line between Rutherford & Wilson county. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Cedars of Lebanon State Park, but we're pretty close to it.

hmmm so far seems much like what we have here? I LOVE the mountains though and thought it was more green than my area (in Central Texas). I was thinking the soil would be richer, not as dry as here, trees taller and more green. Does that vary throughout the state? I'm in hills now and do like that. It's just not very green and a LOT of rock with scrubby looking trees (not tall and forest like).
Here is a panoramic of what my property looks like in Texas. It really is pretty....just HOT and rocky so hard to do anything with. I do love to garden but usually have to buy soil or use my animal manure and have learned to make good use of our rock. I have many garden beds made with them. (if you click on the image it should run the video)

I live in extreme eastern tn. close to sevierville.

Raised in Indianapolis and traveled to or through every state in the US including Alaska in my younger days. I always said I would only settle down in one of two places.... Outskirts of Portland Oregon or Eastern, Tn (well maybe Western NC, but around here its all the same) I doubt I'll ever leave my mountains. The pics from farmer val are what I see just as soon as I get on 40 almost daily
