Aloha from Hawaii! I will be getting some pullets soon and building my very first chicken coop!

I would love some feedback from people in terms of what kind of a coop works best in a warm climate.

I live in warm Hawi, Hawaii on the Big Island where the temps never get above the upper 80's or lower than the 60's. We do get a fare amount of wind and rain. I see a lot of free-ranging chickens around the island but I can't let mine free-range because I am renting. Predators aren't a very big concern either.

How enclosed does it need to be? I certainly don't need a structure with insulation but I assume that I want somewhere they can be dry and protected from the rain.

I also need to build a coop that can be dismantled easily when we move on at some point.

Any tips are more than appreciated!

Mahalo!

I think you can have one that is opened on the sides but produced form the rain and shades them from the sun. Chickens (at least mine) don't mind being out in the rain but all of the coop and (in heavy rain areas) at least some of the run needs to be dry. Damp causes illness and also it's a real pain to clean up a wet coop.

Design a coop that will come apart into 6 pieces floor roof and 4 walls) and make sure that the sections will fit on a truck. If you are only getting 203 chickens you can built a "chicken ark".

Purina has a design for a small coop you can down load and modify for your warmer climate and your local library will have books with coop building instructions.
