I was gonna purchase the plucker...just to make things easier...But the wife seen the price and to ship...was close to a $1000 once it made it to me (Fairbanks Alaska)

She convinced me to just pluck...Hmmm

I got 28 birds to do...

I might try two weekends. Let the slower ones go a week longer Memorial Day weekend will be 9 weeks.... I figured it will be about $8.32 a bird feed wise. That is more than the local retail store get for "So Called Free Range Birds "

Those seem to be about 3 to 4 lb birds..I am hoping for 5 to 6 lb when bagged
.If i wait much longer ..it will be cutting into my salmon season...I am gonna have these guys gone well before then. They take much more work than my layers. They eat & drink 2 to 3 times much.
Salmon Season you ask..?

This yr I have a chance to work a friend of mines dad's fish wheel.

.In the Copper River.
So no more standing on the slippery rocks tied off to a rock for safety
< NOT ME
If you ever tried smoked salmon .<MINE I SMOKED

Then you will love Copper River Reds....Best stuff in the world..I have some and will trade. Is that ok to post here..?

If not Let me know how to do it.

Does anyone know where to get those quick dip shrink bags for birds? I Have been doing a search and coming up with the wrong bags

I only have 20 birds to do but I am going to build a chicken plucker. I ordered the rubber fingers from Ebay and have everything else I need to make one with so it's going to cost me less than $80 total.

he sells the shrink wrap bags too. So how does your salmon trading work? I'd sure love to try some of it!

I miss salmon fishing season. I grew up in Alaska (Anchorage), and then later my folks lived in Soldotna for several years when my kids were little. I really miss fishing on the bank of the Kenai where some friends live. Lots of great bank space for catching reds. My Dad had a boat so we could go out after Silvers and Kings. When I was a kid, our main fishing spot was Montana Creek. Those were great days.

Yes been to all those places..I took the wife on part of our honeymoon to Talkeetna..The we went back 8 yr in a row for those Talkeetna kings,,,HHAHA Alaskan life...I have live in Frbx for 27 yrs..Thinking of moving the wife and two homescholled boys to Hilo Hawaii...We need to thaw out....

That's funny that you are thinking of Hawaii. My parents went back and forth between Soldotna and Hawaii for several years. They even had neighbors in Hawaii (they lived in between Hilo and Kona near south point), that were also nearby neighbors in Soldotna. Lots of Alaskans seem to end up there at some point.

Yep we got friends from Fairbanks,,that live there,,,
Its the hot to cold extremes.. like the hot tube to jumping in the snow,,,it must be something like that that drive many Alaskans to Hawaii. but the cultures are similar,
