I should have taken a picture but I was too curious. Update = now she's back on the nestle

I thought my silkie had gone broody again 2 days ago. She took some eggs and was doing the broody puff/ growl.

Yesterday morning she came out, as usual, and took a HUGE broody poo and was back on the nest last night.

Today, I got home from work and she was outside, but acting a little slow. I watched her for a bit and she was flexing and puckering her bottom. She let loose a little watery mixture and a small "object" that looked like a tiny poo in shape, but was a tanish/ pink color (like silly putty) I took a stick to poke it a bit, and it was pretty hard, a little like plastic. I cracked it and It was definitely a shell. There seemed to be a white membrane inside but it was so small it got all dirty.

She was moving around, but now shes just kinda standing around and it looks like shes a bit puffed up and/or stiff. She is not interested in eating any treats I've brought out and is just kinda standing around, however she still runs away from me. She just took a drink. Eyes/nose clear. I looked at her cloaca and it didn't really seem to have anything wrong with it, but I havent' really looked at too many cloacas in my time as a chicken owner...maybe I should start.

Is something wrong with her or is she just not feeling well? Can chickens simply not feel well?

Should I be posting this in the sick/injured category?

Well, now she is back on the nest acting broody again, so I have no idea what's going on with her. I wish someone would post with their input.

I can help you. Being broody is very hard work on a hen and silkies are stupid on their smartest day. With silkies you HAVE to put food and water right under their nose or they won't eat. The poop was a broody poop, and as time goes on, look out. They turn projectile. Don't ask how I know.

If she becomes too listless, stick some canned corn under her nose.

I appreciate yer feedback. Its not the massive poop im worried about. I've had silkie broodies before that hatched eggs and raised chickies and you're right. I had to stick the food and water under her face and clean her disgusting poop when she did it right on her nest. I get that.....

My problem is the odd egg/poop she dispersed today that was a squirt of watery poo followed by an egg turd. It was very small and the color of silly putty but it was undoubtedly an egg shell with an odd innerd.

Darn! I wish I would have taken a picture before I poked at it.

When a hen is broody her insides aren't working the same. She may have had a partially formed egg, or a bad egg so to speak and got rid of it. A chickens poop actually has a cycle that changes throughout the day. Watery, then solid, then runny, the a combination. It is not unusual.

My first broody ever wouldn't leave the nest. I took her off and she pooped a HUGE pile and I put her back. It went like that for a few days. Then I took her off the nest and before I could even gte her on the ground to go, she cannoned me. All different colors and so much mass it was just disgusting. I had to shower with the hose before I went inside. I never took her off after that.
