Hi I have a 3yr old Isa Brown hen who has not laid an egg since introducing a rooster int o our coop. She sits on the nest box everyday but nothing happens can any one tell me why that is. We have since got rid of the rooster as we had to put a few hens down due to abuse by the rooster.

Hello and welcome to BYC

I'm sorry to hear about your rooster problem. Roosters like that are only good for one thing: chicken pie!

I see two possible causes for your hen's behaviour. Either she's gone broody or she's stressed by the rooster and scared to come out. Both would cause her to stop laying eggs. Is she sleeping in the nest box as well? See what happens if you take her out of the nest box and put her down outside. If she walks around puffed up and clucking and heads back to the box she's most likely broody.

! Great to have with us! I agree with sumi - set her outside and see how she acts immediately upon setting her down. Good luck to you!

If she's clucking, growling and fluffing up, maybe even screeching, she's broody. If not it is probably left over trauma from the rooster. Welcome to BYC.

Ty for the welcome :)
As for the chicken no she's not broody as she only sits there for about 20-25minutes then gets off the nestbox and struts around as tho she has laid an egg. She is so pleased with herself but no egg :(

Hello and thank you great site very helpful. Have lots of questions as relatively new to raising chickens and all by trial and error .Hopefully not any more as there are a lot of helpful people out there:)
