Washing eggs

IF I put my eggs on the counter, side board, whatever, I always clean with antibacterial soap and then a bleach spray. I just like to make sure there is nothing there to get in my food. I never put them where I put food or the clean dishes, just where I would put dirty dishes. That is, unless they have already been washed.
If my eggs start getting over 3 weeks or I just have way too many that haven't sold, I cook up a dozen and give them to the chickens as a treat or make egg ornaments for gifts at Christmas/EAster. I am even thinking about selling some of my ornaments at the farmer's market if I do it this year.

I am new to chickens, so correct me if I am in error....

The bloom will keep eggs fresh longer. if a person decides to wash eggs anyway it has to be at a certain temperature to keep bacteria from being absorbed by the egg. you can add edible mineral oil to the egg to somewhat replace the bloom after the egg is sanitized, but it wont ever be as good as the bloom.

what is the correct temp for washing eggs?

interesting thread, I usually just wipe my eggs with a warm damp wash cloth. works well for most dirt then they go in the fridge. I red submerging them in water can force bacteria into shell, had not heard warm water would stop this?, went to egg factory when I was young and they had sprayers washing the eggs on a belt not submerged.

I also sell my eggs and I did not use to wash them, but since I sell to the same folks every week, I started to wash them. I have 9 hens in one coop and 8 out of 9 use the same nesting box, and they all have their own, lol, some do get messy. I go in my nest each day with rubber gloves and a 5 gal bucket and pick out the
nights poop, but that doesn't always work, some chickesn poop when laying, go figure....

Also with last years Egg Scare, I felt better safe than sorry!!! I guess it is whatever you feel is right!!!!

I watched all the "Chicken Whisperer" videos on the TSC web site, and this one covers washing the eggs. It's near the end of the video, as there are several general maintenance tips, but it's worth watching.

I'm just curious to hear the opinions of others experienced with egg layers. My oldest are only in their fifth week, and still in the brooder, so I'm very interested in all the advice I can get.

This is the link to all the videos. The "Maintenance" video is the one that discusses washing eggs.
