I was wondering how many people here wash their meat before cooking it? My mom always rinsed off her beef, chicken pork etc. before cooking, but I have noticed on many of the cooking shows, actually all of them, that they never rinse off the meat before cooking. So, what is right or wrong?

You have to remember, the cooking shows leave a lot of steps out when they edit. And they have other cooks in the backgound doing a lot of the "real" work.

I wish I had the people who magically produce a clean kitchen every time they come back from a commercial!

I often do rinse meat because Mom did, but I doubt it really does any good. Just habit.

I always rinse my meat off. (Hehehe)....sorry...that just sounded funny! Anyway...I had a friend that use to wash her stuff with soap! Yeck! A good rinsing off under the faucet never hurt anything!

After watching Food Inc. dvd and how they are processed and handled I make sure I wash my meat. I read in a magazine (can't remember where) stating it was not a necessary step anymore probably because commercial chicken is dipped in bleach but who knows.
