Hi, howdy, hallo, and welcome!

Just looking for peeps in the greater Olympia area of Washington state (Tumwater, Rochester, Chehalis, Shelton, et cetera). Anyone in my area? Lets hear about you and your experiences/your flock in the rainy Pacific Northwest!

As for myself i'm loving at the moment: 6 ladies (breeds are Silkie], Red Stars, Australorps, Silver Cuckoo Maran). And one Silkie gentleman (Names are, in same order as breeds: RainDrop, Pawl, RapaNui, Merri and Pippin aka "The Trouble Twins", Big Mama Luna, and Cayanne). Besides our chicharoos, we have 4 Khakis that we love: Hewy, Dewy, Lewy, and Pooy (or Gooy or Mooy - pretty much whatever we feel like that rhymes haha) we can only tell 1 apart from the rest because she has a white spot on her neck, so the others are identical which makes it hard to name them! We love our group a lot, we also live with many a garden and 3 indoor cats (Sissie, Rogue, and Zelda) the latter of which is a dear little thing that has special needs (Cerebellar Hypoplasia), She has been a blessing in our lives though. We're organic, animal friendly, earth friendly and happy as hell. We love this homegrown life and we hope that you do to and that it brings you much happiness and joy!

Please share!
Shout out to the Pacific Northwest.

(Also looking to get two more silkies...)

I'm a little north of you, in Renton.

I love our wetness. I often say I live in paradise.

Hi all!

I'm a bit south of Oly. I am trying to develop a fun multi breed flock of production layers that produce many colors and do well in our cool soggy climate. Right now I have RIRs, black Australorps, and cuckoo Marans. I want to add Olive Eggers, black copper Marans, a white egg layer variety, and some blue and/or green egg layers.

What breeds do you like that fit my dream flock? What drawbacks have you found in these varieties (in relation to our area/climate)?

And lastly, do you have any chicks of these varieties for sale near the Olympia area? If so, please message me! Thank you!

Wow! HomeGrownGudLif you guys have a houseful of critters! Sounds like a Blast! I'm in Oly's Westside (way west) out near Steambout island. Where are you! I may have an extra Silkie or two let me see how my daughters science fair project hatches out. Should know by next Tuesday. Pm me if your interested Silkies or just to let me know where you're at so I don't loose track with all the posts.
Me/ Myself and my girls have had chickens in the past and are just kinda getting started again we picked up a few different breeds in late July early August. We have Wheaten Marans, Eng. Orpington's, and a couple of Wyandotte Roos. In fact until Mike took a Black Orp Roo. On Saturday 5 of my 11 were Roos! Lol
Mikayla my youngest decide do a science fair project on hatching eggs so we have a TON and a few new breeds in 2 homemade incubators and 1LG store bought Inc. that's the long and short of us!

I'm in your area, too! Rain has become apart of life...Yeah, I don't mind it too much. But I'm very happy when summer rolls around and I can sit down on the lawn with my girls without getting soaked!

I am in Hawk Prairie area of Lacey. I started out with what I thought was 3 hens. 2 succumbed to Marek's and the third shared a fine cockle doodle doo one morning. He rehomed fairly quick in Yelm with a friend. Now I have 2 red sex links and plan on having a total of 6 hens. I have gained much wisdom from this site. I should have learned beforehand about chickens before getting them thinking all you have to do is feed and water them.
