Hope it’s okay to ask in here. I have 5 chicks around 8/9 weeks old. I’m still suspicious that one might be a male, do cockerels act the same as hens at this age? Would I be able to differentiate based on behaviour or not? I’m not very knowledged on this. Thanks

The cockerel may act more dominant or protective over the rest of the pullets. At this age it might start crowing so try and listen for that.

Both male and female chicks will jump and flare at each other. So that is not a sure way to tell gender. I compare the combs and waddles. The males seem to get red faster than the females. Of course feather sexing can be done by 12 weeks of age. Thats when pointy hackle feathers can be seen. Unless its a silky. What breeds do you have?

Do you think you can post a picture?

It is the one on the left (it’s whiter, which was what initially caught my attention)
