Wasp Spray

To some degree yes. Birds have a higher respiratory rate than humans, so you should take precautions when using any chemical around them.

I take it you've found a wasp nest near where they are?

If it's inside the coop itself - get all the hens out for the day, close off the doors, spray the nest, wait an hour or two to make sure they're all good and dead, remove the nest by double bagging it in a plastic bag, then air out the coop using fans. Let the hens in late afternoon. You will find eggs in the wrong spots - but the hens will be safe!

If the nest is in the run, spray at dusk (when hens have gone inside for night), leave it until dawn. Knock it down and put in plastic bag. Seal the bag. Bag it again (double bagged).

I always do this last step to wasp nests....just because I find the creatures so detestable. I place the double bagged nest in the sunshine to bake the bejeebers out of it. Then I know it's good and gone! Throw in trash as usual.

(Or, if it's a weekend and we can burn - I put it in the fire instead of broiling it in the sunshine!)
