Wasps?

Our chicks will be going outside in a few more weeks and I went into their coop today with my husband to see what still needs to be done and I see we have wasps. There are no nests around but we live out in the country and they just like to live out here too I guess.

Will they bother the chicks when they move out?

If so what can we do?

Get a wasp trap. One of those glass bottles with the hole in the bottom, where the wasps enter but can't seem to find their way back out. A little sugar water inside will draw them to it.

Or, go all out and get one of the new, plastic wasp trap thingies.

An additional idea is to get a fake wasp nest and hang it up on an eave of your house. Wasps are territorial, and if they see another nest around, they'll look elsewhere to build. This would be an ADDITIONAL step, not the only one.

Both the plastic wasp trap and fake nest are generally available at Home Depot and Lowes.

AtholCoop, I love your traps. How much apple cider vinegar do you need to put in? Do these traps work outside, too? I'll hang a few in our coop, but we always get wasps all over the stinkin' place. I hate them. Thanks.

I only use them outside. You'll get a little water in them from time to time but it's no big deal to turn them over and reset the trap. I use Apple Cider (not apple cider vinegar), but pretty much any fruit juice seems to work pretty well.

There are very few things that I hate more than wasps.

Ya, me too. And our new place in the country has more of the buggers around than anyplace I've ever been! I'm gonna build me a bunch of your traps this year.
