Water in waterer is getting too hot in this weather

I have a couple different watering systems I'm using. I have your classic dish with the screw on jar that works like a dog bowl. But, I have been trying out an automatic system with PVC and water nipples. Everything is getting too hot, even the water in the basic waterer.

How can I store water for an automatic system and run it into a PVC pipe without it coming out so hot?

My goal/plan is to collect rainwater into a trash can, then use that. How would I insulate that? Would a sheet of radiant barrier cloth work? Would that just reflect heat into the chicken coop? Also, would I need a filter system for rainwater?

I am going to cross-post in the feed and water section, but it seems to apply to feed and water too.

Hi! I started using the "5 gallon bucket with nipples" system 2 summers ago and it has been great. I have the buckets hanging by their lip in what was a cabinet for a really big fish tank. This keeps the buckets themselves in the shade all day. Then I used some if the foil bubble wrap insulator stuff from FarmTek on the lids. When the weather is warm (we are in SC), I freeze water in 4 2-liter soda bottles (I have 2 waterers). I put one in each bucket each evening and then replace it the next evening. Even after all day, the water is still very cool by the end of the day! You still have to change the frozen bottles out each day, but I can't see why this wouldn't work with a rain catch system. Good luck!

In one of the two "inventions" threads on this site, someone recently posted a photo of a waterer they had made. They took one of the insulated cooler-type thermoses and put nipples in the bottom of it. That way they could put ice in it and it would stay cool for a long time. I may try that next summer.
