I have a water line near where I am building my new coop, and I think I have decided on using water nipples to water the girls. My question is would it be better to plumb the nipple supply so it is fed directly from our well/pump or should I use a bucket to supply the water?

Hi Frank! I'm pretty new, but from what I've read, the nipples can't take any more than gravity-fed water pressure. There is a way to plumb a bucket with a toilet float valve and then the bucket either has pvc pipe to the nipples or the nipples are directly in the bottom of the bucket. Then the bucket automatically stays full. But I don't believe you can attach them straight to a pressurized system.

Either way works fine but I am a fan of having my bucket outside of the run for easy filling and them running in pvc or tubing inside. This way it takes up very little space inside of the coop or run and is very easy to fill. I also like the cups because they do not drip like the nipples sometimes do and the chickens really like drinking from an open source where they can see the water.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about too much pressure, I will arrange for a bucket.
