water temp?

I have three mallard ducklings who are 5 days old. I gave them their first swim yesterday. What temp should their water be? I don't want to freeze them but don't want to burn them either ! Thanks

At five days, the water for my ducklings was 90F, up to their bellies in depth, and they started to poop out after about five minutes.

how do you read the water temp? just a normal thermometer?
