When I bought our chicks a feeder and waterer, even though I asked, the guy gave me two feeders.

So I've been putting water in the bottom dish of the second feeder, but it barely holds any water at all. What can I make for them? The ones I see on the feeder page are all huge buckets with holes for full-grown chickens. Mine are around a month, have their feathers and just a few little fuzzies.

I would just buy a larger chick waterer from TSC. Waterer's can be such a pain......I have one that looks to hold around a quart of water, plastic with the red water tray......

If you really don't want to buy one, maybe you can just use a plastic cool whip container......Very cheap!

Yes...any old bowl will do, although they will tend to get dirtied up and knocked over moreso than the waterers. I'd go buy one, as you'll certianly get a lot of use of it for years to come.

Unfortunately it's almost an hour away so going back in doesn't work well for me right now LOL! I have a quart yogurt container I think...what could I use as the base for the chicks? A quart would be better than the cup at time now LOL! I only have 3 chicks.

Thanks all! We're hoping to rig up something more permanent soon, but the coop is still under construction though liveable. The extra touches are still getting done.

We're going to rig up some sort of auto-waterer eventually, but want the full run constructed for them first!

I agree, just use any old container til it's convenient to get an adult waterer. A wide shallow bowl is probably more convenient.

I used a large empy milk carton with a large hole cut out the wide side. When its filled it's so heavy that they can stand on it without tipping it over and its nice and low for them to drink out of.

I have chicks myself that are 3 weeks old, and now that they are flying and doing chest bumps all over their brooder they are spilling their little 1 quart waterers constantly (by standing on top and another chicks knocks them off). I have considered a bundt cake pan or one of those old-fashioned ring things that people used to mold jello or freeze ice for punch bowls in. I'm really into repurposing things in my cupboard.

Was this pretty easy to do? I'm contemplating a new waterer to put in the coop as my 5 wk olds have knocked over their qt waterer twice this week. I thought about getting something that hangs but want to leave enough space for them to move around comfortably. A hamster waterer would be perfect I think.
