Waterproof stain for coop

Hi!
I am new to BYC, we are in the process of building our first coop out of untreated pine. What should we put on it to protect it? I would rather stain it. Will the stain/waterproof sealant be toxic for the chickens? Can it "leak" in the soil like they say treated wood can? Any info would help! Thanks!

Should not be let it dry for while before you let chickens in,I stained my coops I used treated and untreated lumber on my coops
