Watertight Windows?

Question about windows: How can we make watertight windows without having custom "real" windows made?

We made our coop with three small windows covered with hardware cloth and sliding plexiglass - just finished yesterday (*YEA* ! ! !). But then we realized that rain can seep in. DUH!

What have you guys done for windows?

For our window, we cut a piece of wood....just larger that the opening, and put a hinge on the top...that way when I close it I can put a latch on it as well. Keeps it closed tight, and no rain gets in.

Roof overhang helps too.
I have about 4 inches of overhang, it rained all weekend and my windows never got wet.
and then there's calking.
