So this weird thing has been happening only with my chicks. It has never happened to my adult chickens.

The first time it happened, I realized one of my chicks wasn't being very active. She would stay in one spot and would puff up a bit, then fall asleep. She wouldn't eat anything. Whenever she found food or I would give her food, she would just peck it and put it down. When I picked her up, I realized that her crop was really, really watery. When I was touching it, she kind of threw up some liquid... I wasn't sure what it was. It was some clear liquid, I don't know if it was water?

I thought maybe she ate something poisonous. So I made her drink some milk. She didn't want to. I had to force her by putting her beak in the milk. At least some milk would go in. After that, she felt better and went back to normal.

Then this happened again with another chick. His crop was really watery, he stopped eating, and wasn't active like the other chicks. But he wouldn't throw up. I gave him milk, too and he went back to normal.

So what I think was that maybe they ate something poisonous? What do you guys think?

How old are the chicks?
Where are they housed, what do you feed, did they have access to anything poisonous?
Photos?

Had the chick been eating/drinking previously when you touched the crop and clear liquid came out?
I would be careful forcing liquids, they can easily aspirate.

This happened a while ago and I didn't take any pictures. But the first one was probably around 4 weeks old and the other one was about 6 weeks old.

I free-range them and they have a lot of space to roam around. I feed them cracked corn in the mornings, at midday, and before they go to sleep. They have a feeder where I always have it full of crumbled chicken feed. Sometimes, I give them leftovers from our dinners (but only if it's rice or spaghetti.)

I think the only poisonous thing that they could've had access to were any poisonous insect or bug they dug up from the ground. The chicks were drinking just fine, they just weren't eating until I gave them the milk. I only touched the crop really softly when the liquid came out, so I stopped touching it.

:idunno Hard to know what was going on there. I'm glad that things turned out o.k. though.

I'm glad everything turned out fine as well. They're almost a year old and it hasn't happened again to them. At least I know the cure to it so if it ever happens again, I know what to do. But it's such a weird thing lol.
