Hi all,

One of our 2 year old hens has been having very watery poops, some with a bit of bloody discharge, over the past month. We’ve checked her crop which seems normal and did a preventative round of Corid. We also just had a fecal float test done… waiting on results.

She just went through a small first molt, and we know her organs aren’t the best from a previous vet visit. Her behavior is normal. She isn’t laying, but neither are her two sisters, and that’s normal. We also introduced two new girls two months ago after a quarantine.

Is that level of bloody tissue in poop normal? Is there anything we missed that we should check or try?

Thank you!

Looks like she has roundworms.
Can you go back out there and get a closer picture of the stringy stuff?

What do you mean by your know her organs aren't the best by a previous vet visit?
Has she already been on antibiotics for that visit?

It looks like blood-tinged intestinal shedding, which may be from worms of some kind. Even if the fecal float comes back negative, I would probably worm the flock. Wait for the report and let us know. Depending on what type of worms are involved, that will tell you what wormer to use. Valbazen and SafeGuard Liquid are used commonly,
to treat most worms, but if there were tapeworms, then Equimax horse wormer would be good. More poop pictures could be helpful.

Thanks all! Closer pictures attached…
A year or so ago she had a hawk attack and wasn’t walking, so had a scan done. The vet said her heart and liver were enlarged.

We do have equimax on hand.
