My 28 weeks old female named Cocoa finaly layed her first white egg on 1/29. I have been asking and asking about when she would lay and I was really hoping it would be before spring time. Well, this past Saturday 1/30 my hubby and I were outside watching all of the animals and I told him I think that Cocoa layed her egg somewhere because her stomach looks smaller. He started to argue with me saying he didn't think so. Then he goes walking across the yard and stops and points to the ground and says "well there is your egg". I ran over thinking that she just layed it in the middle of the yard and left it. I got there and the egg was broken. We were thinking maybe one of our dogs got it. Then we walked over by our pond where Cocoa and Ebony have been haning out alot and sure enough there was another egg in a make-shift nest. We have vines growing all along our fence and they had made a little nest in the vines. I was so happy!
I wanted to grab the egg and go inside and eat it or bake something with it. My hubby said no she is comming you are going to make her mad. So we left the egg there. The next day she had layed another egg in the same nest. I wanted to get them again adn hubby said no wait until she is done laying her bunch.
Well, this morning I ran out there expecting to find another egg and take one inside to eat.
I look in the nest and there is nothing there! I look over to the middle of the yard and there is my lab with something white in her mouth. I ran over there and sure enough there were the two eggs broken and only shells.
I was so mad. So not only did I never get to take a picture of her first eggs I didn't even got to eat one. Now I have to figure something out so my dumb dog stops eating them. Cocoa and Ebony also are free range ducks and don't have an enclosure to be locked up in so I was just thrilled she layed them were I could find them. So I am hoping that she lays another so everyone can see her eggs since everyone was so helpful when I first got her and Ebony.
I am so proud of her!!!
